KUWAIT, Sept 16 (KUNA) -- 1990 -- In Baghdad, Iraqi Minister of Local Government Ali Hassan Al-Majeed is declared governor of Kuwait. US President George Bush addresses the Iraqi people and says that Iraqi troops must withdraw from Kuwait, legitimacy must return and all detainees released. Bush adds that Saddam Hussein had committed a grave mistake by invading Kuwait and that he is not only facing the US, but also the whole world.
1990 -- The UN Security Council unanimously condemns in its resolution number 667 Iraq's transgression of diplomatic missions in Kuwait and its kidnapping of foreign people, and demands their immediate release, along with other detainees in Kuwait and Iraq.
1996 -- Kuwait officially agrees to receive US troops in line with a bilateral defense agreement.
1999 -- Two Kuwaiti border guards were kills on the Kuwaiti side of the border with Iraq in a shooting from the Iraqi side.
2005 -- Kuwait signs the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism. Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signs the agreement at the UN headquarters.
2006 -- Qadisiya Sports Club wins the 9th Asian Clubs Handball Tournament held in Oman after defeating Qatar's Rayan Club.
2010 -- The State of Kuwait presents one million Euros to the Jacques Chirac Foundation for humanitarian work in Paris. (end) gta
