KUWAIT, June 16 (KUNA) -- 1956 -- General Assembly of Kuwaiti sports federation held. High committee was elected grouping in it Jassem Al-Qatami, Muhalal Al-Mudhaf, Issa Al-Hamad, Abdulaziz Al-Sarawi and Ahmad Muhana.
1959 -- Sheikh Fahad Al-Salem Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah passes away at age 59. He was amongst the first Kuwaiti students' delegation to study abroad in 1924.
1982 -- Late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issues decree on increasing salaries of civil servants, military personnel, retirees' pensions and amending laws concerning basic pay and main allowances. The decree stated a revision was required every two years to consider whether further increase was needed to cope with mounting living costs.
2003-- Kuwait signs an agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) on fighting tobacco. Kuwait was the first Arab country to sign this convention.
2009-- The Ministry of Health declares first swine flu case; a Kuwaiti student who returned home from the United States of America.
2011-- Kuwait wins membership in a UNESCO-affiliated commission tasked with boosting cultural diversity.
2013-- Constitutional Court rejects appeals against the one-vote decree and re-election law for the National Assembly. The court nullified results of the December 2012 parliamentary elections, calling for appropriate measures to take place.
2013-- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah delivers a speech to citizens regarding the Constitutional Court decision on the one-vote decree and re-election law. Cabinet also held an extraordinary meeting to discuss the Constitutional Court decision.
2015 -- Kuwait University acquires the ISO 9001, an international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). (end) hb
