KUWAIT, Dec 13 (KUNA) -- 1954 -- The Publications Directorate is established by a decision of the Higher Executive Committee, and Bader Khalid Al-Bader was appointed as its director.
1972 -- Rashid Al-Saif, a renowned poet and scholar, passes away.
1993 -- Al-Dhuba'iya power generation plant reopens after its reconstruction. The plant was destroyed during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait.
1997 -- UN Secretary General Kofi Annan is awarded an honorary PhD from Kuwait University in appreciation for his role in supporting international peace.
2005 -- Kuwait hosts OAPEC's 75th meeting.
2006 -- His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah heads the first meeting of the Higher Council for Governorates' Affairs.
2006 -- Morocco's King Mohammad VI grants His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah the Mohammadi Medal in appreciation for his leading role in strengthening bilateral relations.
2006 -- Kuwait's Abdullah Al-Otaibi wins the gold medal for the 70-kg karate contest during the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, while his countryman Ahmad Muneer bagged the gold medal for the 80-kg category.
