1934 -- Torrential rain on Kuwait destroyed some 500 houses. The year was later referred to as the Sinat Al-Haddamah (year of destruction).
1952 -- The department of education opened the Kuwaiti school in Bombay in response to a request by the Kuwaiti community living there.
1997 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah participated in the eighth Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) held in Tehran.
2000 -- Head of the Kuwaiti Boxing and Weightlifting Federation Sheikh Fahad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Al-Sabah was elected deputy head of the International Weightlifting Federation during elections held in Athens, Greece.
2004 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued an Amiri Order giving Chief of National Guards Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Salem Al-Sabah the title, "His Highness".
2006 -- Kuwaiti shooter Saleh Al-Mutairi was crowned the champion of the skeet contest for individuals as part of the 15th Asian Tournament, held in Doha, Qatar.
2006 -- Kuwait's eminent philanthropic figure, Saleh Ali Humoud Al-Shayaa, passed away at the age of 94. Al-Shayaa built schools and mosques in Mumbai and Sri Lanka, particularly schools for girls who were largely deprived of education. His residence in India used to be frequented by prominent personalities and notables. And during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, he turned the Diwaniah of his house in Al-Shamiah into a gathering chamber for nationals, for discussing problems and boosting morale to steadfast in the face of the occupiers.
2009 -- His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah stood at the National Assembly to face a grilling motion submitted by MP Dr. Faisal Al-Meslem. The closed parliamentary session resulted in 10 MPs signing a motion to refuse cooperation with the cabinet in accordance with article 102 of the constitution.
2010 -- The local political scene witnessed a sorrowful event with security forces disrupting a gathering at Dr. Jam'an Al-Herbsh's diwan (gathering hall) in Sulaibikhat area.
2011 -- Kuwaiti plane, filled with relief aid material, headed to Somalia to help the fellow Arab nation fight severe drought. (end) mb
