KUWAIT, May 5 (KUNA) --

1974 -- Kuwait Judo and Taekwondo Federation established and joined the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on January 9, 1975.

1974 -- Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah elected chairman of Kuwait Naitonal Olympic Committee (NOC) in a term that extended until 1985. He was re-elected in 1989 until he was killed by invading Iraqi forces on August 2, 1990.

1992 -- Kuwait Charge d'Affaires to India Meteb Al-Rumaih escaped a bid on his life.

2002 -- United Steel Industries Company, the first of a kind in Kuwait, started operations with a production capacity of 450,000 tons of steel bars per year.

2015 -- Completion of classification of 800 manuscripts about Kuwait at the Ottoman State Archives.

2015 -- Kuwait National Assembly, or parliament, approved establishment of a company for the trade of livestock.

2019 -- Kuwait Oil Company's (KOC) firefighting team won the firefighter challenge in New Zealand. (end) bs
