KUWAIT, April 5 (KUNA) -- 1949 -- Head of the knowledge and learning directorate Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurated the building of Kuwait Religious Institute.
1951 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah ordered implementation of Islamic Sharia (law) pertaining to endowments.
1953 -- Iraq''''s King Faisal II visited Kuwait for the first time, accompanied by Prince Abdulilah, the Crown Prince, Minister of Defense Nouri Al-Saeed, in response to an invitation from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
1972 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued Law number 15/1972, establishing Kuwait Municipality.
1988 -- A group of terrorists hijacked Kuwait Airway''''s Al-Jabriya plane, en route from Bangkok to Kuwait. The hijackers landed the plane at Mashhad Airport in Iran, then in Larnaca Airport in Cyprus, and finally in Houari Boumedienne in Algeria. Two Kuwaitis were killed during the 16-day saga.
1994 -- Kuwait established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Lithuania.
1999 -- Renowned Kuwaiti writer Abdulrazzaq Ibrahim Al-Basir passed away. He was born in 1904 and his writings were a landmark in Kuwaiti literary history, though he lost sight at age four. Al-Basir is an Arabic adjective meaning "insightful", given to the poet due to his insights, and is not his family name.
2000 -- A surgical team from Hussein Makki Jumma Cancer Center succeeded in conducting a bone marrow transplant operation for a 48-year old Saudi patient.
2001 -- Kuwaiti National Swimming Team won the first GCC tournament for long distance, held in Oman.
2010 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree to set up embassies in Portugal, Djibouti, and Slovakia.
2010 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah attended a ceremony marking 80th anniversary of Kuwait Municipality.
2010 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah toured European states, with stopovers in Germany, Italy, and the Vatican. During the tour, many agreements were signed for cooperation in the fields of oil, trade, environment and media.(end) 2010 -- Minister of Interior Sheikh Jaber Al-Khaled Al-Sabah inaugurated new complexes for Al-Shamiyah Police.
2010 -- Kuwait Municipality celebrated its 80s anniversary at a ceremony, patronized by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
2011 -- Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Moudhi Al-Humoud inaugurated project of installing security cameras at 771 schools in all governorates.
2012 -- The National Assembly unanimously endorsed a bill for public tenders.
2012 -- The international "Booz and Company" ranked Kuwait 13th, as compared to 72nd 2011, in information technology development at the global level. (end) rk
