GENEVA, March 2 (KUNA) -- Kuwait on Monday strongly condemned the Iranian missile attack that targeted its territory describing it as "a flagrant violation" of its sovereignty and airspace and a clear breach of international law the United Nations Charter.
The remarks were made in a statement delivered by Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen before the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Ambassador Al-Hayen stressed that Kuwait firmly upholds its full and inherent right to self-defence in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter proportionate to the scale and nature of the aggression and in conformity with international law and that it will take all necessary measures to protect its territory its people and all residents.
He also expressed Kuwait's solidarity with the other nations affected by the attack reaffirming Kuwait's support for all measures taken to preserve their sovereignty, security and stability to protect their people.
He called on Iran to exercise restraint and immediately cease all hostile and escalatory actions warning that such conduct undermines peace and stability in the region, urging to prioritize wisdom and avoid further military escalation.
Ambassador Al-Hayen called on the international community and the Security Council to fulfil their responsibilities in de-escalating tensions and spare the region from a widening circle of instability.(end)
