BRUSSELS, March 2 (KUNA) -- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen affirmed on Monday that the European Union (EU) stands with its Member States in the face of any threat, following the crash of an Iranian drone near a British base in Cyprus.
In a statement, von der Leyen said she had spoken with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, who briefed her on the incident that occurred shortly after midnight involving an unmanned aerial vehicle targeting the British base in Akrotiri.
She clarified that the Republic of Cyprus was not the target, adding: "While the Republic of Cyprus was not the target, let me be clear: we stand collectively, firmly, and unequivocally with our Member States in the face of any threat." (end)
