TEHRAN, March 1 (KUNA) -- Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced Sunday that it had targeted the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with four cruise missiles.
In a statement carried by Iranian media, the IRGC said the attack comes as a continuation of measures taken by Iran's armed forces and within the framework of striking US and Israeli occupation targets.
The announcement follows what Iran described as a large-scale military assault launched since Saturday morning by the United States and Israeli occupation forces on the capital, Tehran and other Iranian cities.
Iranian media reported that the attacks resulted in the killing of several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Secretary of the Supreme National Defense Council Ali Shamkhani, IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, and Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, in addition to a number of other senior armed forces commanders.
There was no immediate confirmation from US or Israeli authorities regarding the reported strike on the aircraft carrier or the broader developments. (end) mw.aa
