KUWAIT, Feb 24 (KUNA) - The Kuwaiti Cabinet congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti people on 65th National Day and 35th Liberation Day.
This came during the cabinet's weekly meeting on Tuesday at Bayan Palace under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Cabinet Affairs Shareedah Al-Muwaisharji said that the cabinet was briefed on the visit of His Highness the Amir, accompanied by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the Ministry of Defense.
The cabinet was also briefed on the Amir's visit to the General Command of the National Guard, where he commended its personnel for their achievements.
On the occasion of the founding day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on February 22, the cabinet extended congratulations to King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, praising the kingdom's international standing and developmental achievements.
Further, the cabinet reviewed actions taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the submission of a protest note to Iraq over claims affecting Kuwaiti maritime sovereignty, with Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah briefing members on the matter and emphasizing the need for Iraq to respect historical relations and international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Members were also updated on Kuwait's commitment of USD one billion to the Peace Council in Gaza, reaffirming support for the Palestinian people and their rights, and endorsing peace initiatives, including the US President's 20-point plan and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The cabinet reviewed a presentation by Minister of State for Municipality Affairs and Housing Abdullatif Al-Mushari on the establishment of the Urban Planning and Structural Planning Committee to optimize land use, support development projects, and coordinate legislation and regulations for urban planning.
The Cabinet tasked Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Abdulaziz Al-Marzouq to coordinate with relevant ministers and the Cabinet Secretariat to prepare a comprehensive action plan monitoring government projects, financial reforms, governance, and digital services, with monthly reports to the Council.
The Council approved a draft decree-law amending certain provisions of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959 on Kuwaiti nationality to modernize the legal framework, balance national preservation with humanitarian considerations, and ensure sovereignty in granting, revoking, or canceling citizenship, and submitted it to the Amir for approval.
Members also approved draft decrees and memoranda of understanding with friendly states and international organizations, endorsed green urban development initiatives and donations for landscaping, sports facilities, and pedestrian bridges, and commended contributors for their support in beautifying Kuwait.
The cabinet adopted the report of the Supreme Committee for Kuwaiti Nationality on revocation and loss of citizenship in accordance with relevant laws and reviewed additional agenda items, approving several and referring others to specialized committees for further study and reporting. (end) aa
