CAIRO, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- The Arab League strongly condemned the burning of a mosque in the village of Tal, south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank by a settler, describing the attack as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and an assault on religious property.
In a statement on Tuesday, the League denounced the targeting of religious sanctities as a "dangerous escalation that fuels hate speech and violence and undermines any international effort aimed at achieving peace and stability." It stressed that attacks on places of worship constitute a clear breach of international conventions and agreements that criminalize harm to religious and cultural sites.
The Arab League issued an urgent appeal to the international community and to the United Nations and its specialized bodies to assume their legal and moral responsibilities and take concrete steps to halt such repeated attacks, ensure the protection of places of worship, and conduct a transparent international investigation leading to accountability and an end to impunity.
It also called for activating relevant international mechanisms to protect civilians and holy sites and for serious action to prevent the recurrence of such crimes that threaten security and stability in the region. (end) mm.aa
