The ministry said an unidentified attacker placed an explosive device beside a traffic police patrol vehicle early today at Savyolovsky station square, killing an officer at the scene.
Two other policemen were hospitalized in critical condition, while the assailant also died in the blast, it added.
Russia's Investigative Committee opened a criminal probe to determine the circumstances, motives and identity of the attacker, as security authorities continue examinations and inquiries.
