MUSCAT, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- The Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed on Monday its solidarity with Kuwait regarding Kuwait's sovereignty over all its maritime areas and water elevations, calling on Iraq to respect the historic and fraternal relations with Kuwait, principles of good neighborliness, and international law.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it had closely followed the coordinate lists and maps submitted by Iraq to the United Nations, noting they infringe on Kuwait's established and stable maritime sovereignty.
It added that Oman stresses its support for Kuwait's full sovereignty over all maritime areas and water elevations, urging Iraq to consider bilateral agreements, UN Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, and long-standing cooperative understandings between the two nations.
The ministry emphasized that maintaining adherence to international law, good-neighborly principles, and all relevant treaties is essential for preserving stability and respect between the two brotherly countries. (end) ahm
