BRUSSELS, Feb 20 (KUNA) -- The X platform announced Friday that it has filed an appeal at the General Court of the European Union against a EUR-120-million fine imposed by the European Commission over alleged violations of digital content rules.
The platform said it lodged the appeal with the EU General Court to challenge the Commission's decision, which was based on alleged breaches of transparency obligations stipulated under the European Digital Services Act (DSA).
X affirmed in a statement that the fine represents a precedent as one of the first significant penalties imposed under the Digital Services Act, noting that it will defend its position before the European judiciary.
The platform decried what it called the EU Commission's "incomplete and superficial investigation," stating that the probe was legally flawed.
X's global government affairs unit said on the platform that the EU investigation included "grave procedural errors, a tortured interpretation of the obligations under the DSA, and systematic breaches of rights of defense and basic due process requirements, suggesting prosecutorial bias." The platform stressed that the appeal submitted to the EU General Court aims to annul the fine, affirming its right to ensure that European rules are applied fairly and in accordance with proper legal procedures.
