By Ahmad Al-Mazyad WASHINGTON, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Al-Sadu Society, in cooperation with the Middle East Institute, opened the Beyond the Textile exhibition in Washington to mark Kuwait-US relations during Kuwait's National Day celebrations.
In her speech at the opening ceremony held on Thursday, Kuwait's Ambassador to the United States Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah highlighted the strength of Kuwait-US relations, noting they span more than 65 years and were built on dialogue, patience, trust, and shared purpose.
Meanwhile, Head of Kuwait Al-Sadu Society Sheikha Bibi Duaij Al-Sabah highlighted the history of Sadu art as a symbol of Kuwaiti heritage and the creativity of Bedouin women in turning natural materials into enduring cultural masterpieces.
In a statement to KUNA, Sheikha Bibi said the exhibition, held under the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, highlights Sadu as a living knowledge system that inspires contemporary art.
She added that the exhibited works show Sadu's evolution from preservation to innovation, strengthening its presence on the global stage.
The exhibition, which will be open to the public until August 23, coincides with the 65th anniversary of Kuwait's independence and the 35th anniversary of its liberation, highlighting the deep cultural ties between Kuwait and the United States.
Kuwait Al-Sadu Society was founded in 1991 to preserve traditional textile heritage, document related crafts, and pass them on to future generations.
In 2022, the society was granted consultative status with UNESCO, a non-governmental organization. (end) amm.ao
