KUWAIT, Feb 12 (KUNA) -- Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan chaired on Thursday the 46th meeting of the ministerial committee tasked with following up the executive status of major development projects in the country.
The meeting reviewed updates on major projects included in memoranda of understanding signed between Kuwait and other countries, notably cooperation on Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, electricity systems, renewable energy development, and low-carbon waste recycling initiatives.
Discussions also addressed housing development, environmental infrastructure for wastewater treatment plants, free and economic zones, land reclamation, ecosystem rehabilitation, expansion of afforestation programs, environmental protection efforts, and measures aimed at combating sand encroachment nationwide.
Al-Mashaan affirmed that the executive contract for the North Kabd Wastewater Treatment Plant project will be signed in February with the designated Chinese state-owned company, under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and senior officials.
Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs and committee rapporteur Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat said the meeting falls within periodic reviews of agreements and memoranda signed with other governments, stressing continued coordination among state bodies to accelerate implementation of major projects.
The committee also reviewed progress on Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, including a proposal by China Baowu Steel Group to establish an iron and steel plant on Boubyan Island, with Kuwait expressing interest in supporting and potentially co-investing in the project.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Abdulatif Al-Mishari, Minister of Finance Dr. Yaqoub Al-Refai, Director General of KDIPA Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Head of the Fatwa and Legislation Department Counselor Salah Al-Majed, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs and committee rapporteur Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr. Adel Al-Zamel, and senior officials from the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs.
