ALGIERS, Feb 11 (KUNA) -- The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union on Wednesday strongly condemned recent measures approved by the Israeli occupation authorities aimed at expanding and entrenching settlements in the West Bank, describing them as a "blatant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions." In a statement signed by the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union President Ibrahim Boughali, the union said such settlement policies undermine prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-State solution.
The union warned that the continuation of Israeli occupation's expansionist policies would further escalate tensions and instability in the region and impose a new reality on the ground by force.
It also renewed its call on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, take effective measures to halt these violations and ensure international protection for the Palestinian people.
The union reaffirmed its firm support for the Palestinian people and their inalienable right to self-determination and to establish their independent and sovereign state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions. (end) mr.seo
