MUSCAT, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani stated on Tuesday that the negotiating track between Tehran and Washington has recently witnessed positive developments, noting that the next phase "may hold opportunities for strategic de-escalation."
This came during an interview Larijani gave to Omani television on the occasion of his official visit to Muscat, where he met with senior officials in the Sultanate to discuss shared interests and regional stability.
The Iranian official underlined that the success of the negotiations depends on genuine political will from both sides.
He stressed that adherence to a reasonable and realistic framework will lead to success, while raising additional demands will lead to failure.
He added that his country looks forward to engaging in negotiations "whenever they are realistic," indicating that if negotiations on the nuclear file succeed, "they can be expanded later to include other issues."
Larijani emphasized Tehran's belief that war is not a solution to the disputes with Washington and that regional conflicts between Iran and the United States should be resolved through dialogue and talks.
He stated that if the US objective is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, "this can be resolved, but introducing unrelated issues will only complicate matters."
He pointed out that existing regional disputes are among the most prominent sources of tension, and addressing these issues would contribute to restoring stability and peace to the region.
The Iranian official noted that escalating tensions resulting from military interventions complicate the regional landscape, while resolving these problems paves the way for development and progress of all countries in the region.
He indicated that the United States previously linked the nuclear issue to military and missile issues, but the focus is now solely on the nuclear file, which he described as a "rational approach."
Regarding Oman's efforts to facilitate Iran-US talks, Larijani emphasized the importance of Muscat's role in creating suitable conditions for dialogue between the Iranian and American sides, describing it as "extremely positive."
He said that Oman accurately understands the region's interests and is familiar with the course of previous negotiations.
He noted that the Sultanate possesses a progressive vision that qualifies it to play a constructive and effective role. (end)
