LONDON, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- The UK strongly condemned Monday the Israeli occupation's plans to expand control over the West Bank, saying that the move will harm efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East region.
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said, "The UK strongly condemns the Israeli Security Cabinet's decision yesterday to expand Israeli control over the West Bank." The spokesperson added, "The UK has been clear: any unilateral attempt to alter the geographic or demographic make-up of Palestine is wholly unacceptable and would be inconsistent with international law. We call on Israel to reverse these decisions immediately." "A two-state solution remains the only viable path to long-term peace with a safe and secure Israel living alongside a viable and sovereign Palestine," the spokesperson said The Israeli occupation's decision was met with criticism, namely from the Palestinian Presidency, which called the decision "dangerous" and "an open Israeli attempt to legalize settlement expansion".
