KUWAIT, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ministry of Interior, through the Coast Guard, announced on Monday the arrest of three individuals for engaging in illegal fishing using an unauthorized boat and attempting to run over a security officer.
According to an official statement, the incident occurred during a routine maritime patrol when the Coast Guard spotted a boat violating fishing regulations. The boat's captain failed to comply with orders to stop and tried to flee. Pursued to the shore, the suspects attempted to escape in a vehicle, during which one of them tried to run over a Coast Guard officer. Authorities managed to apprehend them without any injuries to the security personnel.
The three suspects include one Kuwaiti citizen and two illegal residents, all with prior criminal records. The boat was not registered for fishing. Following legal procedures, the Coast Guard seized and destroyed the vessel and referred the suspects to the competent authorities for prosecution.
The Interior Ministry emphasized that anyone attempting to break the law or threaten the safety of security personnel will face strict consequences, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining security and safety in Kuwait's territorial waters. (end) ajr.aa
