BRUSSELS, Jan 30 (KUNA) -- The European Union welcomed the agreement reached by the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Friday, as a positive step towards enhancing stability and advancing the political process in Syria.
The EU calls on all parties to implement the agreement in "good faith and compromise," in a way that contributes to strengthening mutual trust and creating appropriate conditions for a new phase of dialogue, EU spokesperson Anouar El-Anouni said in a statement in Brussels.
The statement stressed that "a full cessation of hostilities" is necessary in order to enable the delivery of humanitarian aid, ensure the protection of civilians, and create the conditions for the return of internally displaced persons to their areas.
It added that the stability of north-east Syria constitutes a key factor for the success of an inclusive political transition in the country, ensuring the protection of the rights of all Syrians without exception.
The European Union called on all sides to ensure the security of camps and detention facilities and to work to prevent the resurgence of Da'esh, while at the same time affirming the EU's readiness to support the implementation of the agreement. (end) arn.gb
