LONDON, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- The British government on Wednesday announced investing GBP 27 million (around USD 37 million) to launch a free nationwide training program aimed at teaching employees to use Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In a statement, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) said the program's first phase targets training at least 10 million people in the fundamentals of AI, in partnership with leading British institutions and major organizations, including the National Health Service (NHS).
DSIT said the initiative will ensure British workers benefit from the rapid changes driven by AI, noting the launch of a new joint government unit to provide policy advice on AI's impact on the economy and labor market.
The statement also cited a study showing that only 21 percent of workers in the UK feel confident using AI in their jobs.
Only one in six British companies currently use AI, while micro-sized firms are 45 percent less likely to adopt the technology compared with large companies, it added. (end)
