KUWAIT, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Arab Energy Organization (AEO), Jamal Al-Loughani, held talks with incoming Secretary-General Khaled Al-Otaibi on the handover of duties and responsibilities, as well as the organization's current and future activities.
In a statement to KUNA, the organization said the meeting comes as Al-Loughani's term as Secretary-General is set to conclude at the end of February, marking the completion of his three-year tenure. Al-Otaibi is scheduled to officially assume his duties on March 1.
The statement noted that the meeting also coincides with the issuance of Kuwaiti Cabinet Decree-Law No. 1 of 2026 approving amendments to the organization's founding agreement.
The decree stipulates approval of the amendments endorsed under the Arab Energy Organization's Council of Ministers Resolution No. (113/2) on developing the organization's work and restructuring it, which was signed in Kuwait City on December 15, 2024.
The organization affirmed that this step represents a significant milestone toward launching the organization in its new form, once the remaining member states follow Kuwait, one of the three founding members since 1968, in ratifying the amendments to the founding agreement.
According to the statement, Al-Loughani welcomed Al-Otaibi and wished him success in his new duties upon assuming leadership of the organization during the coming period.
Al-Loughani stressed his keenness on continuing the implementation of the vital project related to developing and restructuring the organization in line with the aspirations of energy and oil ministers in member states.
He emphasized the importance of expediting the remaining steps to ensure the official launch of the organization in its new structure at the earliest possible time, in accordance with the directives of the organization's Council of Ministers.
He also expressed his great pride and appreciation for the confidence placed in him by His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to represent and serve Kuwait, highlighting the organization's role at the Arab, regional and international levels.
Al-Loughani added that this trust enabled him to convey the positions and views of Kuwait and member states on key issues related to oil, energy and climate change to Arab, regional and international organizations and forums. (end)
