MADRID, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information Dr. Nasser Muhaisen signed Sunday an agreement with UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Al Nowais in which Kuwait will assume the chairmanship of the Middle East Regional Commission.
The signing ceremony was held in Madrid in the presence of Kuwait's Ambassador to Spain Ziad Al-Anbaei, as part of the strategic partnership between Kuwait and UN Tourism, and on behalf of Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi.
In the agreement, Kuwait will chair the 52nd session of the Middle East Regional Commission, to be led by the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs.
The commission's first meeting was attended by tourism ministers from member states and is scheduled for February.
In this context, Kuwait is preparing to host a first of its kind regional tourism conference titled "Enhancing Tourism Through Artificial Intelligence," reflecting the country's expanding role in the international tourism landscape and its growing status as a key partner in shaping the future of tourism in the region.
The Kuwaiti delegation concluded its official visit with a tour of the Casa Arabe in Madrid, one of Europe's leading Arab cultural institutions, where it met with Director-General Ambassador Miguel Moro Aguilar.
Discussions underscored the vital role of media and culture in promoting intercultural dialogue, strengthening ties between nations, and reinforcing Arab cultural presence on the global stage.
The event marks a strategic milestone highlighting Kuwait's forward looking tourism vision, strengthening its international profile, and demonstrating its institutional and technological readiness to support sustainable tourism and digital transformation.
The visit comes as part of an official Kuwaiti delegation led by Dr. Muhaisen to Spain to attend the FITUR 2026 International Tourism Fair, one of the world's leading tourism exhibitions, reaffirming Kuwait's commitment to enhancing its media and tourism presence on the global stage.(end) hnd.hs
