BRUSSELS, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) said on Monday that the annual inflation rate in the euro area stood at 1.9 percent in December 2025, down from 2.1 percent in November, compared with 2.4 percent in the same period a year earlier.
Eurostat said in a statement that annual inflation in the European Union declined to 2.3 percent in December 2025 from 2.4 percent in November, while it had reached 2.7 percent in December 2024.
It noted that the lowest annual inflation rates were recorded in Cyprus at 0.1 percent, followed by France at 0.7 percent and Italy at 1.2 percent, while the highest rates were registered in Romania at 8.6 percent, Slovakia at 4.1 percent and Estonia at 4.0 percent.
Eurostat added that a comparison between December 2025 and November of the same year showed that annual inflation fell in 18 EU Member States, remained unchanged in three, and rose in six.
The largest contribution to the annual euro area inflation rate in December 2025 came from services at 1.54 percentage points, followed by food, alcohol and tobacco at 0.49 percentage points, non-energy industrial goods at 0.09 percentage points, while energy made a negative contribution of 0.18 percentage points.
