RAMALLAH, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- Palestinian Deputy President Hussein Al-Sheikh stressed the importance of political and legal linkage between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip within the framework of territorial and institutional unity, following the announcement of the Peace Council.
Al-Sheikh made the remarks during a meeting Monday with British Consul General Helen Winterton and French Consul General Nicolas Cassianides, according to a statement from his office. The meeting addressed the latest political and humanitarian developments after the announcement of the Peace Council, its Executive Committee, and the interim Technocrats Committee, aimed at implementing the plan of US President Donald Trump and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.
He emphasized the need to prevent a renewed conflict in Gaza, expedite the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population, support reconstruction efforts, and advance political initiatives to achieve stability, ensuring the Palestinian Authority can fully assume its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Sheikh also underscored the necessity of halting settler attacks in the West Bank, noting that ongoing violations undermine prospects for stability and contravene international law and legitimacy. (end) nq.aa
