TOKYO, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung agreed Tuesday to promote economic security cooperation, Kyodo News Agency reported.
At a joint press conference after their talks in Nara in western Japan, Takaichi said she and Lee confirmed that they would continue making reciprocal visits at the summit level.
Lee said they agreed on the importance of trilateral security collaboration with their common ally, the US, and reaffirmed their cooperation toward the Korean Peninsula's complete denuclearization amid North Korea's missile and nuclear threats.
"We agreed to advance discussions on the economy and economic security fields for strategic and mutually beneficial collaboration," Takaichi said. She also revealed that the two leaders discussed intensively the issue of strengthening their supply chains of critical minerals and affirmed they would draft cooperative documents to address transborder organized fraud during their meeting.
At the outset of the talks, which were open to media, Takaichi said Japan and South Korea "should move bilateral relations forward and work together to play roles for the region's stability," adding that she hopes to take their relationship to "new heights." Lee said cooperation between Seoul and Tokyo has become "more important than ever and more important than anything" amid the "fast-changing international order". (end)
