CAIRO, Jan 5 (KUNA) -- The International Islamic Council for Da'wah and Relief (IICDR) convened in Cairo on Monday, with the participation of representatives from 33 international charities, including Kuwait's Al-Najat Charitable Society and International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO).
Chaired by Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayeb, the two-day meeting focuses on ways and means to promote charitable action and encourage young people to join charitable and volunteer activities.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Najat's Board Chairman Faisal Al-Zamel said the gathering mainly aimed at making high-level coordination and integration among charities and building shared concepts of young people's involvement in charitable action.
He added that the Cairo-based council's meeting was also intended to alleviate the aftershocks and fallout of natural disasters and to support war victims and refugees across the world.
He added that the council had unanimously named the IICO's chairman Jamal Al-Nouri, as deputy chairman of the IICDR in a step that reflects confidence in Kuwait's efficient charitable figures and leading humanitarian role. (end)
