KUWAIT, Dec 30 (KUNA) -- Minister of Justice Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait said on Tuesday the State of Kuwait's accession to the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention on Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict bolsters protection of the historic, cultural and religious heritage in such events.
The minister, who doubles as Chairperson of the Permanent National Committee for the International Humanitarian Law, was speaking to KUNA after the Cabinet approved during its weekly session earlier today a decree-into-law approving the accession to the second protocol of the convention.
Kuwait's joining of the second protocol of the Hague convention affirms its commitment to the humanitarian dimension of the heritage as a common value, he said.
The Cabinet decision, Minister Al-Sumait has added, is in line with the state policy of supporting the international humanitarian law and harmonizing national legislations with international commitments.
He expressed deep gratitude to the Government for this crucial decision, lauded constructive cooperation with Minister of Information, Culture, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Chairperson of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Yahya and the national permanent committee for tackling this file.
