ISLAMABAD, Dec 29 (KUNA) -- At least five militants and a soldier of Pakistan army were killed in a security operation in a tribal district of Pakistanآ’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, said the military on Monday.
According to a press release by Pakistan militaryآ’s media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Khar area in Bajaur tribal district, on reported presence of militants.
It further said that during the conduct of the operation, due to effective engagement by Pakistani troops, five militants and Major Adeel Zaman were killed, confirmed ISPR.
Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed militants, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces and Law Enforcement Agencies as well as killing of innocent civilians.
The operation comes a day after an operation by security forces killed at least four "terrorists" in Kalat district of Pakistanآ’s southwestern Balochistan province. (end) sbk.mt
