WASHINGTON, Dec 29 (KUNA) -- A train derailed in southern Mexico late Sunday, killing 13 people and injuring scores of others.
The Mexican Navy said the train, which had 250 onboard, was traversing near the town of Nizanda in Oaxaca State before going off the rails.
Some 13 people were killed, while 98 were injured, with 36 sent to hospitals for treatment, it added.
Meanwhile, Mexico's Attorney General, Ernestina Godoy Ramos, said on X that an investigation would be opened to determine what caused the train to derail.
The Navy-operated Interoceanic Train, linking the country's Pacific Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, has had its main line operating since 2023. (end) amm.gta
