ISLAMABAD, Dec 27 (KUNA) -- At least four "terrorists" were killed in a security operation in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province bordering Afghanistan, said military.
During the operation, the security forces engaged in intense exchange of fire with the militants, and four militants were confirmed dead, a press release from the media wing of Pakistan Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.
Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the killed militants, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area. Sanitization operations are being conducted to eliminate any other militant present in the area. The Security forces and Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign sponsored and supported terrorism from the country, the ISPR concluded.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the security forces for the successful counter-insurgency operation.
"We'll foil the nefarious designs of terrorists, who are enemies of humanity," he said, adding that the entire nation stands with the security forces in the fight against terrorism. The PM was quoted as saying the government is determined to completely eradicate all forms of terrorism from the country. The operation comes a day after at least five militants were killed by security forces in an operation in Kohlu district of Balochistan province.
Pakistan is witnessing a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end) sbk.gb
