CAIRO, Dec 26 (KUNA) - Egypt, Somalia, Djibouti and Turkiye responded angrily to the recognition by the Israeli occupation authorities of Somaliland region in northern Somalia as an independent state.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Bader Abdulatty received phone calls from his counterparts Abdisalam Abdi Ali - of Somalia, Hakan Fidan - of Turkish, and Abdoulkader Hussein Omar - of Djibouti, on Friday.
They discussed the serious developments of the situations in the Horn of Africa region with emphasis on the Israeli occupation's recognition of Somaliland, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Such recognition represents a serious precedence that puts in jeopardy the security and stability of the region, and tampers with the stable rules and principles of international law and UN Charter, the statement noted.
The four ministers stressed the need of maintaining the unity, sovereignty and territorial safety of Somalia, and rejected any unilateral measures that might encroach on Somalia's stability or security.
They renewed support to the state institutions of Somalia and rejected all attempts that might impose parallel entities or jeopardize the unity of the state, according to the statement.
Earlier today, the prime minister of the Israeli occupation government Benjamin Netanyahu announced recognition of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state, and unveiled plans to expand cooperation with the Somali region in various fields. (end)
