CAIRO, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- Egypt has reaffirmed its firm stance backing the legitimacy in Yemen, and the country's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday that Egypt is following, with deep concern, the current developments in Yemen, and appreciates the efforts aiming to reach calm in a manner that has a positive impact on the region's security and stability.
Cairo affirmed the necessity of maintaining the Yemen's national institutions and its people's property to pave the way for the restoration of stability in Yemen and the whole region, and ensure navigation in the Red Sea.
In addition, the statement affirmed that Egypt depends on regional efforts supporting de-escalation in a way that contributes to preserving Yemen's unity and territorial integrity, and advancing toward an inclusive settlement which meets aspirations of Yemeni people for security, stability, development and prosperity. Meanwhile, Egypt's top diplomat Badr Abdelatti conducted a telephone call with his Yemen peer Shayea Al-Zindani during which they discussed the ongoing situation in Yemen and efforts led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE to achieve de-escalation, and security and stability in the country.
Abdelatti stressed that Egypt welcomed the deal signed to exchange prisoners and detainees in Yemen, as a supportive step for efforts aiming to reach a truce and resume the settlement path. (end) aff.abg.hm
