ANKARA, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT), working with the General Directorate of Security, arrested a suspected member of the so-called Islamic State (IS), named Ibrahim Burtakucin, in the eastern city of Malatya for allegedly preparing an attack during New Year celebrations.
Turkiye's Anadolu Agency, citing security sources on Friday, said Burtakucin had been operating in Turkey on behalf of IS and had sought to travel to conflict zones to join the group when possible.
Authorities said they tracked his location through coordinated intelligence work and carried out a joint operation that led to his arrest.
Digital materials and banned publications linked to the suspect and the group were seized during the operation, it mentioned. (end) aas.lr
