NEW YORK, Dec 24 (KUNA) -- Members of the United Nations Security Council reaffirmed support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, and their commitment to achieving lasting peace and prosperity for the Yemeni people.
In a press statement issued late Tuesday, Council members expressed strong backing for efforts toward a political settlement, urging de-escalation and intensified diplomatic engagement by all parties and regional actors.
They reiterated their firm commitment to Yemen's unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as their support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government.
The members strongly condemned the continued detentions by the Houthis of UN, NGO, civil society, and diplomatic staff, demanding their immediate and unconditional release and stressing that threats against humanitarian workers are unacceptable. (end) ast.ahm
