MUSCAT, Dec 21 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's national shooting team began its participation in the Arab Pistol and Rifle Shooting Championship, which kicked off on Sunday in the Omani capital, Muscat, by winning a silver medal in the 10m Air Rifle - Women's Team event.
Bahrain's shooters claimed the gold medal, while Qatar secured the bronze trophy.
The head of the Kuwaiti delegation at the championship -- which runs until December 26 -- Secretary General of the Kuwaiti and Arab Shooting Federations Obaid Al-Osaimi, told KUNA that Kuwaiti shooters Maryam Arzouqi, Ritaaj Al-Ziyadi, and Fajr Al-Dhabib achieved a strong result by finishing second after intense competition against their counterparts from other Arab countries.
Al-Osaimi explained that the Kuwaiti women delivered an outstanding performance in the event, scoring 1845.6 points, narrowly trailing the Bahraini team. He added that "this strong start by the Kuwaiti team in the championship will serve as a major motivation toward achieving further accomplishments in the upcoming competitions." He noted that Kuwait will also take part in the 10m Air Rifle - Mixed Team, 50m Rifle Three Positions, Men, 10m Air Pistol, and 25m Pistol events for both men and women, expressing hope that Kuwait's male and female shooters will win additional medals in the championship.
Al-Osaimi added that the championship features wide participation from top Arab male and female shooters, promising highly competitive contests, and is marked by significant official attendance, including International Shooting Sport Federation President Luciano Rossi and members of the Arab Shooting Federation.
He affirmed the Kuwaiti Shooting Federation's commitment to supporting national team shooters and preparing them in the best possible manner to achieve victories at regional, continental, and international events. (end) sad.onm
