JEDDAH, Dec 15 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah on Monday underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to develop joint programs that build youth capacities.
Ambassador Al-Sabah made the remarks during a high-level meeting, held as part of the 26th regular session of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the OIC at the organization's headquarters in Jeddah.
She thanked the commission for addressing a topic that speaks directly to the realities of many OIC member states, stressing that youth are key partners in peacebuilding, recovery, and development.
Referring to Kuwait's experience following the 1990 invasion, Al-Sabah said the crisis highlighted the vital role young people can play in the most difficult circumstances, noting their contributions to defending the country, organizing community efforts and restoring essential services after liberation.
Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher pointed to the difficult humanitarian conditions facing several OIC member states, including Palestine, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Syria and Libya, where young people continue to face poverty, displacement, disrupted education and limited job opportunities.
She emphasized Kuwait's stance that integrating youth into relief and recovery efforts is not optional but a strategic necessity for achieving stability and sustainable development.
She explained that, in line with its regional and international humanitarian role, Kuwait supports youth-focused initiatives through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), partnerships with the United Nations, and regional and bilateral programs.
These efforts include rebuilding schools, hospitals and community centers, providing educational and training scholarships, financing youth entrepreneurship and innovation.
She reaffirmed Kuwait's commitment to empowering young men and women in peacebuilding programs, in line with UN Security Council Resolutions 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security and 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.
Ambassador Al-Sabah is heading Kuwait's delegation to the 26th regular session of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
