GAZA, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Thursday, of the worsening humanitarian conditions faced by hundreds of thousands of displaced people, particularly in camps and areas lacking even the minimum means of protection, following heavy rainfall in the Gaza Strip, which has further deteriorated living conditions.
UNRWA said in a press statement that flooding of streets and water seeping into the tents of the displaced has worsened the situation, adding that low temperatures, severe overcrowding, and a lack of hygiene increase the likelihood of disease spread, especially among children.
It affirmed that the worsening suffering can be prevented by allowing unimpeded access to humanitarian aid, including medical supplies and essential shelter materials that would enable families to face winter conditions safely and with dignity.
The Palestinian Civil Defense had announced the flooding of displaced persons' tents in several areas of the Gaza Strip, warning that the weather depression is expected to reach its peak in the coming hours. (end) wab.onm
