KUWAIT, Nov 30 (KUNA) -- Public Prosecutor Judge Saad Alsafran on Sunday issued a decision to form a specialized team tasked with combating human and migrants' trafficking, implementing the relevant national strategy.
The Public Prosecution said in a statement the move was in line with efforts to revamp the criminal justice system, designed to ensure victims' protection, elevate efficiency of investigation and judicial proceedings for this type of crimes of compound nature.
The team includes Deputy Director of Al-Assima (Kuwait Capital) Prosecution, Combating Human and Migrants' Trafficking and Capital Market Prosecution, Musaed Al-Shemmari, Member of the Technical Office of the Public Prosecution Fahad Almutairi, Member of the International Cooperation Prosecution and Human Rights Barrak Kankouni, Member of the Complaints and Grievances Examination Office Mubarak Boudai, Member of the Public Funds Prosecution and Money-Laundering and Terrorism Funding Abdullah Almutairi and Member of Al-Assima Public Prosecution, Human and Immigrants' Trafficking Abdullah Alshanfa.
The statement stated that Law 91/2013 stipulates several main tasks namely activating the national referral mechanism in the Public Prosecution, setting unified procedures for specifying and protecting the victims, in addition to overhauling methods of investigation, evidences' collection, setting technical guidelines for members of the Public Prosecution and the authorities tasked with the judicial measures over crime indexes.
Other tasks include preparing unified samples of the judicial cases and procedures related to victims of human trafficking, revising current and emerging cases, deducing practical challenges, submitting necessary recommendations, building an integrated database for the human and immigrants' trafficking and preparing regular analytical reports pending submission to the Public Prosecutor.
Moreover, the team is charged with international coordination for tackling remarks in reports by UN and regional agencies, preparing replies and the required information, plus proposing and conducting specialized training programs for members of the Public Prosecution and the judicial control authorities in cooperation with Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies.
The Public Prosecution has affirmed that forming the special team embodies its approach for boosting sovereignty of the law, developing tools for protecting the victims, and ensuring harmony of the national measures with the international commitments, amid the continuous development of crimes' types.
