KUWAIT, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah chaired the 36th meeting of the ministerial committee tasked with following up on the country's major development projects, at Bayan Palace on Thursday. During the meeting, the Prime Minister urged committee members to continue pushing forward national achievements within Kuwait's broader development drive, noting the country is advancing at a steady and rapid pace toward a promising future. He emphasized the need to launch additional pioneering development projects aligned with sustainable development goals. The committee received a briefing from representatives of the Ministry of Public Works on the construction progress for the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project, including measures taken and the preparation of the required contractual documents.
Members were also briefed on components of the North Kabd Wastewater Treatment and maintenance project and its related works, which contribute to improving Kuwait's sewage infrastructure.
For his part, Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs and rapporteur of the committee Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat said the meeting reviewed updates from relevant government bodies on major development projects at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, cooperation in the electrical energy sector and renewable energy development, progress on green low-carbon waste-recycling initiatives, housing development cooperation, and environmental infrastructure projects related to wastewater treatment, cooperation in environmental protection and anti-desertification efforts was also discussed.
In this context, the committee heard from the visiting technical team assigned to environmental rehabilitation and afforestation programs and sand-drift mitigation, where they presented a visual report outlining recent progress in various project sites and showcased modern technologies used to address these natural challenges. The Prime Minister discussed with the head of the visiting team mechanisms to incorporate these initiatives into national strategies aimed at creating practical solutions that generate job opportunities and support food and water security.
Attending the meeting were President of the Prime Minister's Diwan Abdulaziz Al-Dakhil, Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Minister of Public Works Dr. Nora Al-Mashaan, Minister of Municipality and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Abdulatif Al-Mashari, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy as well as Acting Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Dr. Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem.
Also present were Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Head of the Fatwa and Legislation Department Counselor Salah Al-Majed, and Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat, and Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works Eid Al-Rashidi.
