BEIRUT, Nov 26 (KUNA) -- The UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) affirmed on Wednesday that children in Lebanon continue to be exposed to violence and fear, even during a ceasefire, urging all parties to respect the agreement.
A statement by UNICEF Representative in Lebanon, Marcoluigi Corsi, said that deadly attacks continue to threaten children in Lebanon, stressing that every child has the right to grow up safe, protected, and free from harm.
He added that since the ceasefire was announced one year ago, the attacks claimed the life of more than 13 children, leaving 146 others injured as reported by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
The UNICEF urged all parties to respect the ceasefire and to take immediate action to end and prevent violations against children, uphold their rights and comply with international law, Corsi added.
The UNICEF Representative said children in Lebanon are still far from being safe, stressing that they need protection, psychological support, and an environment where their rights are guaranteed, not threatened.
Israeli occupation forces continue targeting towns, vehicles, and motorcycles in southern Lebanon and have recently escalated their attacks despite the ceasefire agreement that started on November 27 of last year. (end)
