CAIRO, Nov 26 (KUNA) -- The Council of Arab Information Ministers on Wednesday elected uncontested the State of Kuwait as Chair of the Executive Office for the coming two years' mandate.
Kuwait's designation to the post by acclamation came during the council's 55th session that began earlier today with participation of Arab information ministers and senior officials.
The State of Kuwait Minister of Information, Culture, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Almutairi expressed, in a statement after the unanimous election, deep gratitude to the council's members for their gracious confidence, designating the State of Kuwait as the head of the Executive Office.
"We are proud of this responsibility which we will shoulder with all seriousness and faithfulness as we are aware of this role's significance in supporting pan-Arab information cooperation and boosting the Arab presence at various quarters," the minister stated.
He expressed deep appreciation for his Saudi peer, Salman Aldosari, for his distinguished efforts during his expiring mandate of the bureau, tangibly overhauling joint media tasks mechanisms among the members and staying abreast of the changes in this vital sector.
The designation of the State of Kuwait to the key post was due to its status as a pioneering media example and its vision aimed at developing the Arab media order to match the current changes and challenges, he said.
The State of Kuwait is partaking in the session with a delegation headed by the information minister.
It includes the State of Kuwait Permanent Representative at the Arab League, Ambassador Talal Almutairi, and the Assistant Undersecretary at the Information Ministry for Services Affairs, Salem Alwuttayan. (end)
