KUWAIT, Nov 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Municipality announced Wednesday the nomination of Bader Al-Ajeel as Secretary-General of the Arab Towns Organization (ATO), following the approval of representatives of Arab cities participating in the organization's extraordinary Executive Council meeting held via videoconference at the request of Kuwait Municipality, the permanent host country.
In a statement to KUNA, the Municipality said the meeting was dedicated to considering Kuwait's nomination of Al-Ajeel to assume the position of the organization's new Secretary-General, in line with the government's desire to enhance the organization's performance and strengthen its role.
The Municipality noted that Al-Ajeel, the nominee of the host country, is one of the organization's experienced cadres, having joined ATO in 2017 and acquiring extensive expertise in urban planning and development, which enabled him to gain solid knowledge of municipal and developmental issues at both the local and Arab levels.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Ajeel said that the shared responsibility goes beyond developing programs and initiatives to redefining the organization's role and reinforcing its position as a hub of expertise, a knowledge house, and a regional reference in urban affairs.
Al-Ajeel stressed the importance of continued efforts to establish platforms for exchanging experiences and developing national capacities across Arab cities, enabling them to play an active role in shaping the future.
He also underscored the need to enhance the organization's financial sustainability and diversify its revenue sources to support its ability to implement programs and meet the needs of Arab institutions with the support and empowerment they deserve.
The Arab Towns Organization, established on March 15, 1967, and headquartered in Kuwait City, is an Arab regional non-governmental organization specializing in municipal and urban affairs. (end) adh.aa
