KUWAIT, Nov 20 (KUNA) -- Minster of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi met on Thursday with a high-profile delegation from the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, in addition to representatives from the GCC member states.
The delegation's visit aim to back and enhance the programs of early detection of cancer in Kuwait, and develop the national record, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
During the meeting, the minister was informed about the results of the delegation's field visit to some health facilities concerned with the early detection of breast, cervix and colon cancer.
The delegation reviewed the key outcomes of session on sharing expertise, and building potential with Gulf and national efficiencies that aimed to unify regional efforts in protection, early detection and improving health services, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, acting director of prevention and control department of non-communicable diseases Dr. Wafaa Al-Kandari said the visit constituted a key step toward advancing early detection system of cancer in Kuwait.
She noted that cooperation among the Gulf center, the IARC and the World Health Organization contributes to upgrading health services and maximizing its benefits.
The Ministry of Health is pursuing its efforts in prevention and early detection of chronic diseases in a manner that positively shows life value and public health in society, she stressed.
Founded by the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in 2021, the Riyadh-based Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control aims to enhance cooperation in the field of public health and exchange of knowledge among all GCC member states. (end)
