LONDON, Nov 19 (KUNA) -- A Russian military ship has approached fringes of Britain's territorial waters beaming laser radiation toward a British reconnaissance aircraft north of the Atlantic, Secretary of Defense John Healey said on Wednesday.
Healey, speaking at a news conference, said the Russian intelligence gathering ship, Yantar, aimed laser at the British plane in a bid to blur the pilots' sighting. The same ship passed through the English Canal last year, he added.
This provocative act is a dangerous development, Secretary Healey said, warning that the British military forces would take necessary precautions if this ship passes again close to the national territorial waters.
Yantar's operation is part of a Russian program in the deep seas, monitoring at peace times and sabotaging during wars, he said. (end) mrn.rk
