WASHINGTON, Nov 13 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called for an immediate end to foreign support for Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF), condemning the group's atrocities and violations against civilians and warning of a worsening humanitarian crisis.
Speaking to reporters at Hamilton Airport in Canada following G7 foreign ministers' meetings, Rubio said that what the world is witnessing in Sudan is a humanitarian disaster, stressing that the external flow of military aid and support to the RSF must stop.
He also denounced the RSF's acts of sexual violence and atrocities and accused the group of agreeing to a US-backed ceasefire with no genuine intent to honor it.
On a separate issue, Rubio reaffirmed that defending the United States from drug cartels operating in the Caribbean remains a top national security priority. He said the administration continues President Donald Trump's campaign to curb narcotics smuggling into the country, describing it as "an attack by organized criminal gangs and traffickers."
Responding to European criticism that US operations in the Caribbean may breach international law, Rubio said, "I don't think that the European Union gets to determine what international law is - and what they certainly don't get to determine is how the United States defends its national security."
He added that American forces in the region are primarily gathering intelligence as part of counter-narcotics efforts.
Rubio emphasized that President Trump has made clear his commitment to defend the national interests and security of the United States from the threats posed by drug cartels and other transnational criminal organizations. (end)
