KUWAIT, Nov 11 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) has launched a campaign aiming to curb plastic use in a bid to raise awareness about more sustainable alternatives, its director general Dr. Faisal Al-Humaidan said on Tuesday.
The initiative, christened, "My day without plastic," is in line with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's "vision" to further reinforce the principle of environmental sustainability, the official said in a statement, citing the efforts of KISR to boost awareness about the perils of plastic waste.
The date of the initiative's launch coincides with the 63d anniversary of when Kuwait's constitution was issued, said the campaign's chief and head of KISR's environment and climate change program Masouma Al-Qasimi, highlighting the "sustainability" of Kuwait's natural resources as a core concern.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Fatma Al- Mousawi, the chief executive of youth platform, "Kafu," said that engaging youngsters in such campaigns was imperative to raise awareness about such a pressing matter.
This year's campaign is the second instalment of KISR's plastic free program, having been launched in 2019 with the aim of curbing plastic use and turning to more sustainable substitutes. (end)
