KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- Typhoon Kalmaegi has killed at least five people in Vietnam after slamming into the country's coastal areas, according to Vietnamese authorities.
Kalmaegi made landfall in central Vietnam on Thursday evening, damaging buildings, light poles and trees across the region, while around 3.1 million were affected by power cutoff, said the country's emergency agency in a press release.
More than 537,000 people have been evacuated from storm-hit areas, as over 268,000 soldiers have been deployed to carry out research and rescue operations in affected areas, according to local media reports.
Earlier this week, Kalmaegi tore through the central Philippines, killing at least 188 people and injuring 135 others in one of the worst disasters of the year. (end)
