RAMALLAH, Nov 3 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) said Monday that the Israeli Knesset's so-called Security Committee approved a draft law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners and referred it to the full Knesset for a first reading on Wednesday.
According to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave the green light for the bill's approval.
Israeli media cited by WAFA, the process toward fully enacting the "execution of prisoners" law could be lengthy but may be expedited with Netanyahu's support.
Israeli media also quoted far-right minister Itamar Ben Gvir as thanking the prime minister for backing the legislation.
The bill was part of the coalition agreements signed between Netanyahu and Ben Gvir in 2022. It stipulates the death penalty for prisoners accused of killing Israelis out of "racial motives or hatred."(end)
